A heat stress test for workers is extremely important to facilities where temperatures are required to be high. According to OSHA, thousands of workers get sick each year; some even die, due to heat-related issues in the workplace. To prevent injury and running afoul of federal regulators it is a good idea to have heat stress monitors and other devices that can administer a heat stress test if necessary. Heat stress monitors determine the level of heat stress as a result of a combination of internal (body) heat and external heat exposure from the environment. The standard method of measuring heat stress is based on the wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) and level of work activity. WBGT provides the most accurate determination of the heat stress index based on the cumulative effect of air temperature, air movement, relative humidity and radiant heat. When the heat stress index becomes too high, the monitor will register the heat level as dangerous.
