An infrared temperature sensor is a method of non-contact measurement, because the measuring device does not have to touch the fluid or product being measured. An infrared temperature sensor is an economical instrument used in applications where the high temperature of the target could damage or destroy a contact sensor. Materials that are extremely hot, moving, or inaccessible are typical candidates for infrared. Industrial infrared temperature sensors are used to measure the temperature of materials in a fixed location, such as a process control loop. These infrared sensors are available in a variety of body formats, operating wavelengths, and output signals. Selecting the right infrared temperature sensor does not have to be a challenge but it is definitely necessary.
