Thermowells

A stainless thermowell is used to provide isolation between a temperature sensor and the environment, in liquid, gas or slurry. Installed directly into piping systems, the stainless thermowell facilitates sensor replacement in high pressure pipelines and eliminate the need to interrupt the process flow or drain the process system for sensor maintenance. Though the stainless thermowell remains popular among beer brewers and layman lab folks, thermowells are constructed from a variety of materials. Surface coatings can be used to improve corrosion and erosion resistance. Thermowell types are designated by the style of stem or wetted portion of the well. Most thermowells are machined from bar stock to insure integrity for high pressure applications. Smaller wells may be constructed from tubing and have the end welded closed and a process connection welded on. These are typically used in low pressure applications.
