    • Q:

We currently have this pH electrode. We need a pH electrode that can has a temperature range up to 212 degrees. What would you recommend? What is the difference between the double junction and single junction?
Asked on 11/28/2012 by Judy from Warsaw, IN

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

A double junction electrode restricts the reference half-cell behind another junction to limit the contamination from the sample into the reference chamber, prolonging the life of the electrode. This electrode has a flat surface and is a specialty electrode for surface testing. Other surface electrodes that would support temperatures up to 212F (100C) would be items 05718-32 or 35805-72.

    • Q:

what is range of output of this probe?
is this suitable for using with water
      Asked on 5/12/2012 by Anonymous

      1 answer

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

When connected to a millivolt meter, it puts out millivolts, 58.3 for every pH unit. The probe itself does not have any output. It is absolutely suitable for water.

    • Q:

Is this electrode compatable with pH 11 series?
      Asked on 4/20/2012 by Anonymous

      1 answer

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

Yes, it is compatible. A separate ATC probe would be necessary, since this electrode has no integrated temperature sensor. See 35613-05 for the ATC probe.

Can this be sterilized in an autoclave?

      • Staff Reviewer

        A:

No, this is a general purpose probe and is not autoclavable. We do offer fermentation probes that may be autoclaved, but an adapter may be needed so the connection fits your meter. Please call for further assistance.

Answered on 9/20/2011 by Jen from Technical Support
      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

This pH electrode cannot be autoclaved; exposing this probe to that level of heat will destroy the sensitive membrane at its tip. If an autoclavable pH electrode is needed, one can look at our fermentation probes. For more information on this pH probe, Please contact our technical application specialists for additional assistance (contact information can be found in the "contact us" section on the web page).

Comments about Cole-Parmer pH electrode, combination, single-junction, gel-filled, BNC connector:

This probe works well but we use it daily and have discovered the life is only 6-8 moths. After that, some of the reading start to be questionable and we plug in another.

Keep in mind this is industrial use in a lab where pH is measured at least a dozen times a day. It is kept clean and calibrated daily too.

The PH sensor needs warnings on the installation instructions to not use a wrench or pliers. Just hand tighten. Otherwise the elements may break and the sensor is DOA/.
