  • Q:

My thermometer stopped working while I was using it on a piece of meat. The display disappeared and the on-off switch won't work. The only thing displayed is the degree F indicator. I tried opening up the open-close cover in the back, and it does not come off - it just rotates, like it is stripped. What do you suggest?
Asked on 4/11/2015 by David from United States

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Turn to open and tap on a table until the cover comes off. Replace the batteries which should restore the functionality.

  • Q:

What is the significance of a (FDA approved) step-down reduced tip on a digital thermometer?

Is there a recommended immersion depth of a probe for a digital thermometer?
Asked on 6/12/2013 by Nick, Mr. Exacto from Carlstadt, NJ

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The reduced tip allows for a quicker response time as there is less material around the smaller diameter section of the probe where the sensor is located. Another advantage to the reduced tip is the fact that it will not leave as large of a mark when taking measurements in meats and other solid foods.

The recommended immersion depth is 1/2 inch.
