We currently own a Vantage Pro 2 unit and we are interested in having the information been downloaded directly from the Vantage Pro 2 to a PC via software through our network. My question is if this would be possible by using the WeatherLink IP. If not, what will be your recommendations.

Can I use this product package with my Vantage Pro 2 station and not purchase a remote monitor? I want to get the data from the web site via PC and phone.

      A:

This would connect to the actual monitor so it would still be needed. The advantage of the IP is that you do not necessarily need a computer, just a router

  • Q:

What is the difference between this IP version for $295, and the cheaper non IP version? I want to buy the Vue and see the weather online or remotely.

      A:

The weatherlink IP is designed to connect directly to an internet router for direct upload to weatherlink.com. The standard weatherlink installs to a computer for data viewing and will allow custom reports or uploads.

No, Item 9980-65 does not work wirelessly. The hardware has a cable that must be attached to the router.

    Satisfactory, except lack of security

    By John

    Pros

    • Simple installation

    Cons

    • Manual Needs Improvement
    • No Password Security

    Best Uses

The installation is simple enough, once you figure out the manual. Poor instruction manuals are something of a trademark with Davis. The IP address for the connection has no security, so it is not well suited to use with a switch box. Our IT folks are concerned with the network vulnerability and so they are insisting on a separate connection so that they can firewall it. If they just built a simple password interface to make it less vulnerable, that would have been perfect. Also, to reset, you have to shut off power to the console and remove the battery. It would be a big improvement if there was a button reset so one doesn't have to shut it down.
