  • Q:

I live on the Gulf Coast, with lots of wind and sand and salt. A cheap weather station lasted only about 3 months before the anemometer failed, stopped turning. Can you tell me why yours might last longer? Do you sell any anemometers that use the venturi effect instead of a spinning cup?
Asked on 2/24/2016 by Ken from Galveston, TX

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

All our anemometers have a spinning cup.Rugged components stand up to hurricane-force winds, yet are sensitive to the lightest breeze. Includes, wind speed and wind direction sensors, mounting hardware, and 40 ft. (12 m) cable.

      Specifications
      · Wind-tunnel tested to speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour! Wind speed range: 1 to 200 mph, 1 to 173 knots, 0.5 to 89 m/s, 1 to 322 km/h.
      · Sealed stainless steel ball bearings for long life.

  • Q:

Do you sell a replacement cable for the temperature probe for the older units, I believe 6150C. The squirrels chewed through the 4 wired cable near the temp probe.

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The cable is not available by itself. It is included with the replacement console: 3454293

  • Q:

I need to add leave wetness, soil temp and Soil Moisture to my system. What do I need to do that for local farmers?
Asked on 10/8/2015 by Jim Alexander from Spring Lake, MI

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

This unit will not measure soil moisture and wetness. I would recommend item 86531-14 for that application.

  • Q:

How long is the cable from the ISS to the Console in the Cabled model? (not the anemometer cable) Is this cable 4 lead RJ or is it another type of cable? What is the maximum length of this cable? Does the cabled ISS still require a battery to operate or is it powered through the console?
Asked on 9/15/2015 by Dave from Seward AK

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

This unit features a 100 ft (30 m) cable (connects console to sensor suite). The cables can be extended for a total of 1,000 feet. Here are the extension cable part numbers:
      9980056 (40 feet)
      3454299 (100 ft)
      3454300 (200 ft)
This is not a 'standard cable' it is a straight through phone cable type with an outdoor rated plastic insulator, and the gauge of this cable is 24. The cabled Vantage Pro 2 is an AC powered weather station consisting of the ISS, Integrated Sensor Suite, and the console, which supplies power to the ISS.

Answered on 9/15/2015 by Danielle from Technical Support
  • Q:

How long is cable? What type of cable is it? What is max length we can get for this weather station?
Asked on 8/26/2015 by KeithC from Frederick, MD

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The included cable is 100' long. It is not standard phone cable. It's straight-through rather than flipped 4-Conductor Extension Cable, and it has an outdoor rated plastic insulator. Gauge of this cable is 24. They do still have standard RJ-11 phone connectors.
You may purchase additional cable with standard connections that you can use to extend the distance up to 1000' from the console to the ISS. Item 34543-00 is 200 feet which is the longest continuous length.

Answered on 8/26/2015 by Dan from Technical Support
  • Q:

If this is wireless why do I need 100' of cable to hook up to ISS
    Asked on 1/9/2014 by Rod

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The 86403-01 is the cabled version - with a 100' cable in between the ISS and console. The wireless version is a different part number: 86403-03.

Asked on 6/7/2013 by Wayne from Windsor. Ont.

  • Q:

I have had my vantage 2 for about 7 years now. The inside unit is telling me I have a low battery even though I put a brand new battery in. Do I need a new outside station or can it be fixed, or is there something else I can try?
Asked on 2/10/2013 by Pastor Z from Guttenberg, IA

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

If the console is telling you that there is a low battery on Station 1, then the backup battery in the SIM outside is drained. Replace it with our 34542-91.

Comments about Davis Instruments 6152C Weather Station System:

Before purchasing our Davis weather station, I researched and reviewed every other weather station brand and manufacturer that I could find. Davis' extremely fast update speed was the deciding factor for me and it has been one of the best purchases I've made. After 6+ years of flawless operations, the outside temperature reading began to go out intermittently. Davis' rebuilt / refurbished the entire system for a nominal fee and it is again working perfectly. There are probably less expensive systems available, however, none of them could possibly match Davis' quality, range of features, and outstanding service.

Comments about Davis Instruments 6152C Weather Station System:

Fairly easily mounted on the side of my house at the roofline. I painted and/or covered mounting tube and fasteners because I'm next to the ocean. It's tough to get enough sunlight here so I got the cabled version. Cables were no problem to install and were plenty long. The console is easy to watch and does everything. But I got the data logger and s/w so I could publish my data and watch it when we're out of town. The Weatherlink s/w for Mac could be better but I needed the data logger to use with other weather s/w I have.
