  • Q:

My station recently stopped displaying outside temp, outside humidity, wind chill (just --- in fields) or rainfall (zeros in fields), but wind speed and direction function properly. Any suggestions on best troubleshooting approach?

      A:

This sounds like it may be a console setting error. Please go into the set up (please refer to console instructional manual on webpage if you need console set up help), and on the ID number you are reading from make sure that it says on ISS and not on WIND which it sounds like it could possibly be displaying. This should correct and re-display the other parameters.

I have a Vantage Pro with a data logger. I am thinking about purchasing a Vantage Pro2. Can I use the data logger with the Pro2.

The data logger would be different between the Vantage Pro and the Vantage Pro2.

  • Q:

I have a message at the bottom of my console "low battery on station 1". I have replaced the batteries but the message has remained. How do I get rid of it?
Asked on 2/20/2016 by Vel from Collingwood, Ontario

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Generally, it will take 24 hours for the message to clear (or just overnight). However, you may also go into the setup menu and exit. Press Done and (-) to get into setup, followed by Done to exit. The low battery indication occurs if the voltage drops below 3.0V. Normal voltage on a fresh battery is 3.9V

Answered on 2/24/2016 by Eric from Technical Support
  • Q:

I also receive the low battery message, but only once and a while, maybe once a month. What would cause that?
    Asked on 2/17/2016 by Don

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The lithium battery in the ISS is a long lived, non-rechargeable backup battery. During the day the solar panel charges up a capacitor on the main board, which is able to power the system overnight. Repeated reports of "Low Battery" do not indicate a bad battery, they indicate that the charging circuit on the main board is failing; If the message reads "low battery transmitter 1" then there is a bad camera size battery on the transmitter board. If this is the case just replace with a 3V lithium Ion Batter CR123A battery (can be picked up at a pharmacy or 68511-36. The message will not go away automatically- it will either disappear overnight (automatically at midnight) or you can go into the setup mode screen and exit to the main screen and the message should go away. Press Done and (-) to get into setup, followed by Done to exit. The low battery indication occurs if the voltage drops below 3.0V. Normal voltage on a fresh battery is 3.9V

  • Q:

I also keep receiving a "Low Battery Station 1" reading on the display. I understand by reading a couple of responses that it may not be the battery, but the charging circuit. Could it be the solar panel itself? The unit is fairly old and the panel appears "cloudy" - would it need to be replaced and can I purchase it separately? I have changed the battery several times - they last only a few weeks before I get the "Low Battery" warning. The last one only lasted two weeks.
Asked on 1/1/2016 by Nick from Port Jefferson, NY

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Indeed, it sounds like charging issue if replacing the battery didn't solve the problem. Replacement front cover housing with solar panel is 30003-55.

I just purchased a house that has the Vantage Pro 2. The sensor suite was destroyed in an earlier storm and not replaced by the previous owner. I have the display, but can I buy a sensor suite alone or do I have to purchase a new monitor also? Thanks!

Does this unit allow connection to computer and smart phones via the internet? Can I log on via my smart phone and see what the readings are?
Asked on 8/6/2015 by Greg from Elizabethtown, KY

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

To connect to a computer, the software is required. If you have a PC and USB connection please see part number 86403-54. If you have PC and a serial connection please see part number 86403-52, and if you have a MAC please see part number 32245-48. Davis has apps for both iPhones and Androids that let you access your weather station data directly from your smartphone. Sending your weather data directly to the WeatherLink Network provides data storage for longer term analysis and reference. By going through Weatherlink.com, your data is available to multiple users at one time, using PCs, tablets or smartphones. The WeatherLink network also provides the option of pushing your weather data to CWOP and Weather Underground.

  • Q:

I want to install this over my roof and have the sensor in my bedroom about 30 feet away, but NOT line of sight. The house is masonry and tile roofing, will I be able to receive the signal?
Asked on 7/4/2015 by Bob from Green Valley, AZ

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Yes, 30 feet away would be more than suitable for the signal to reach through the obstructions.

  • Q:

1.) How long the battery in the ISS should last. Will weak battery affect transmission signal strength at night.
2.)Can the gain of the console be adjusted to improve communication. The communication worked fine but recently I experience frequent communication failure.
3.) My Vantage Pro 2 console has REV 3-12 English firmware. Is there newer version? If yes what are the improvements and should the firmware be updated?
Asked on 6/25/2015 by Ladia from Medora, Warren county, IA

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The battery in the sensor should last overnight and get recharged in the daytime. It should not affect the signal strength. Please see the manufacturer's website for updated firmware and software for these weather station.

Comments about Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2<tm>, Wireless Weather Station:

I have owned the Vantage Pro2 for five years or better and finally started having a few issues. The unit had preformed flawlessly since installation. Customer support is absolutely the best. I did have to ship it back to the company for an "overhaul" which took less than two weeks from sending to receiving back and once again is working like new. Overhaul had a nominal charge being the unit was way out of warranty. It is mounted on the SW coast of Washington State, 50' off the beach and getting it's fair share of wind and rain much less salt exposure. I've had other brands that were nearly as much as this unit, without the longevity and virtually no customer support. If this unit ever becomes irreparable, I will buy another Davis unit. By far the best on the market for the price. I would have given this six stars......

Great for weather and solar data for our area

Internet access is a plus but it would be nice if more detailed information like dew point and UV could be shown.

Had to buy a new one after 6 years because mice had eaten all the insulation off the wires, but it was still working. This newer one is even better!

Comments about Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2<tm>, Wireless Weather Station:

I am a novice weather watcher and a volunteer Firefighter in a small suburb outside Austin. I attended the Skywarn school and asked the NWS meteorologist for a recommendation on a wireless weather station. He recommended David Instruments. I purchased the VANTAGE PRO2, WIRELESS by Pro2. I first ordered the wrong model and Davis was great and gave me a full refund and sent me correct unit. I was able to install the measuring station myself on a staged pole (24' tall). Set up the desktop monitor and default settings. Was able to install entire system in about an hour and a half. Worked perfectly from the beginning (May 20). I love this system and folks at Davis are great!
