  • Q:

I have had this package for approx five years and have found it to be an excellent instrument . Recnetly on the unit we are getting false humidity reading of 1% on the outside temp/humidity. Is it faor to assume if I buy just the sensor I am safe to assume it is not the inside computer?

      A:

Make sure the console is not near a humidifier or de-humidifier. Check calibration number and adjust if necessary. Turn off the console backlight.

  • Q:

Hi! Considering this product for a project I'm working on. Ideally, the product will be mounted on a 35 ft pole. How much does the unit weigh? Does it come with software to control the operation? Lastly, can the unit be depowered remotely? Thanks.
Asked on 4/28/2016 by karaschmidt from Golden, CO

      A:

This item is sensor suite only, you would need the console in order to have the complete system. The shipping weight of the sensor suite is 5.6 lbs. It does not come with software to control operation, that would be purchased separately as the weatherlink ip which is part number 86403-54. This will monitor the parameters of the unit remotely.

  • Q:

My first battery lasted a little over a year. Since that time, new batteries are lasting only 2-3 months. Is it possible that the solar charging is no longer working? If so, should I send the unit for service?
Asked on 3/20/2016 by Lewist from Vidalia, GA

      A:

If the low battery message appears, you will need to replace the 34542-91 Lithium battery on the transmitter board. If battery has been swapped out and the Low Battery indication remains, the transmitter board may need to be replaced. The lithium battery in the ISS is a long lived, non-rechargeable backup battery. During the day the solar panel charges up a capacitor on the main board, which is able to power the system overnight. Repeated reports of "Low Battery" may not indicate a bad battery, they could indicate that the charging circuit on the main board is failing. In this case, the capacitor. The capacitor itself is not offered as a replacement part. The transmitter board will need to be replaced. It can be ordered under 00305NQ.

  • Q:

Why will my unit not show outside temperature any more?? Everything else works fine.
Asked on 2/13/2016 by Jim from Sea Isle City, NJ

      A:

I would first make sure the console is correctly receiving a signal. Try reducing or increasing the distance between the ISS and the console. They should be
at least 10 feet (3 meters) apart. Maximum range is 1000' (300 m) line-of-sight. If there is not an issue with the connection, there could be an issue with the internal components of the ISS.

  • Q:

Hi, My Vantage Vue gave me the Low Battery Transmitter message. So I replaced the Lithium 123 3V battery in the Sensor Suite. But the little green LED indicator light is blinking fast. No matter how I hold/press the indicator button, it won't quit. What do I need to do? The battery will wear out with this light continually flashing.
    Asked on 12/24/2015 by Sue

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The flashing light should subside within a few minutes, but may take up to 10 minutes before the light stops.

  • Q:

Can this unit do automated data logging for 24 hour periods without being connected to the Envoy8X Data Logger 6318 the entire time? My coastal research involves equipment setup on a little dinghy in the ocean at various locations 20 yards from shore and I need wind data about every 5-10 minutes. I'm just not sure if the Envoy8x needs to be plugged into a computer and running within range the entire time.
Asked on 5/14/2015 by Coastal Geology Grad Student from Honolulu, HI

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Yes, the Envoy 8X will be able to store the necessary data without being constantly connected. Depending on the number of sensors and logging interval, the unit could store over a year's worth of data and download it when it is convenient. I would suggest a weatherproof housing and the solar power kit, as well.

  • Q:

I am getting the following message on the display of my Vantage Vue Console: "Low Battery Transmitter". I can not find a reference on how to deal with this issue. What should I do?
Asked on 1/28/2013 by JAH from Olympia, WA

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

There is a CR123A button cell battery on the sensor suite's transmitter board that needs to e replaced. These can be purchased from us as item 68511-36. Once the battery is replaced, the 'Low Battery' warning should disappear within 24 hours, probably at midnight.

Do I need to purchase a station w a console if I want to attach it to my PC only? Can I purchase a Sensor Suite and the Weatherlink software only. I really don't need a console unit.

      A:

Yes, you would need the console either way to communicate to the PC.

  • Q:

I have a 2 year old Vantage Vue system. I've noticed that the cup anemometer has started to stick and will not rotate in light winds unless given a push. Is there any maintenance or repair that can remedy this issue?
Asked on 9/21/2011 by Anonymous from Mt. Juliet, TN

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Remove the cups and clean underneath the drip ring, there could be insect debris inside. Otherwise, ensure the cups are firmly in place and secured to the rotating shaft. Do NOT lubricate the shaft.

Comments about Davis Instruments 06357 Wireless Integrated Sensor Suite:

* I was disappointed that the original unit failed after only about three years. I was told that the design life is about ten years, mine did not get close to that. I wish I was informed before I bought first unit that failure might occur in such-and-such a time period. However, I did buy a second unit and it works just fine.
