The 10-ft (3 m) micro-cable with solid-state probe permits doors to close on it.
Digital thermometers are inexpensive, easy-to-use instruments that display temperature in a fast-responding digital format. Digital thermometers come in pocket-sized, remote, wall, panel-mount and even tabletop versions. They typically have a stainless steel probe sheath with thermistor or diode sensor. Probes can have varying lengths and are even equipped with extension cables for difficult to access temperature measurement. Wireless thermometers are also available for remote digital temperature monitoring. NSF-approved thermometers are waterproof to allow complete sanitization and some even add antimicrobial protection. Pocket thermometers usually require a battery but are available solar-powered for temperature monitoring over an extended period of time. Dual-channel indicators can provide indoor/outdoor comparisons while min/max thermometers give a digital readout of highest and lowest temperatures read. Davis Instruments features general purpose digital thermometers from trusted brands including Extech, Taylor, Cole-Parmer, Oakton, Testo, and Comark. For more information about digital thermometers contact a Davis Application Specialist today. Model 94460-74 is supplied with special bottle probe specifically designed for refrigerator/freezer applications. The glass bottle probe is sealed and filled with patented nontoxic glycol solution, which protects the sensor from rapid temperature changes when refrigerator door is opened.

These instructions were obtained from the manual:

      1. Select the Probe Temperature Display Mode by pressing the IN/OUT button located on the back of the unit until "OUT" appears on the display.
      2. Press MODE button until "LO" and "HI" appears.
      3. To set the low temperature alarm limit (LO), press the LO ALM SET button to advance the display until the desired low temperature is
displayed. Press and hold the LO ALM SET button to rapidly advance the display.
      4. To set the high temperature alarm limit (HI), press the HI ALM SET button to advance the display until the desired high temperature is

  • Q:

Will the product work okay if I place the entire thing in the refrigerator? I'm not sure I like the idea of shutting the door on a cord, and I don't need to hear the alarm, just check it when I'm there.
Asked on 5/21/2015 by Karen from United States

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

We do not recommend placing the entire unit inside the refrigerator. The display should be mounted on the outside of the fridge door. The cable is durable to handle the contact of the closing with the rubber door seal. The display is not meant to be placed inside the refrigerator.

  • Q:

Is the certificate of calibration good for one or two years?
Asked on 3/25/2015 by Vickie from Louisville, Ky

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The certificate of calibration is for one year. Please note that these thermometers may be sitting on the shelf for a few days prior to shipment, therefore, you will more then likely not get a full year out of the calibration.

Answered on 3/25/2015 by Polo from Technical Support
  • Q:

Is this unit capable of being calibrated and adjusted (if necessary) to bring it back in tolerance? If yes, is access to the adjustments easily detectable?
Asked on 4/24/2014 by Mark from Winslow, ME

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

There is no adjustment to the electronics. A calibration would consist of a certified calibration lab such as Innocal using a known standard for comparison and noting the offset on the certificate.

  • Q:

What type of notification is provided for an alarm? Just aural or is there also output provided via a relay with Form C contacts?
    Asked on 4/26/2013 by Kevin

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The alarm is audible only, estimated to be 60 to 80 dB. There is no output.

  • Q:

I would like to know if the probe can be taken apart from the bottle. The refrigerator we have in our clinic has a small opening on the side were only the cord and the probe can fit thru but not the bottle. we are looking for a thermometer with bottle sensor that we can pass thru this opening. Thanks
Asked on 4/16/2013 by Jessie from Seattle, WA

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The probe is sealed in the bottle of glycol, so it is not meant to be removable. I would suggest looking at the 94460-72 thermometer, as the probe is removable from the actual meter portion, so you could thread the cable through to the meter and reconnect it.

Answered on 4/18/2013 by Mike S from Technical Support
  • Q:

what is the frequency for changing this glycol liquid ?
If the liquid spills/bottle breaks how to overcome do we get spare of this liquid?
Asked on 12/30/2011 by Shakeer from Bangalore, india

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

The glycol is in a sealed container, so it should need replacement. It would prove difficult to break the plastic bottle. If this occurs we suggest replacement of the entire unit since the probe may also be damaged and the calibration is based on the probe and meter together.
