  • Q:

Hi, is this suitable for dusty ambients? can the sensor get damage with flour particles?
    Thanks
    Asked on 5/2/2012 by Roxana

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The sensor can be damaged by flour particles. A dust cap is included, but high particle levels will cause the unit to fail. The unit should be positioned within 20 square feet of the desired reading area, or one unit per 20 square feet.

  • Q:

can the sensor and the unit stay together in the trailer bin I want to monitor temp? will this unit record up to 2 to 3 months time
    Asked on 9/12/2011 by Anonymous

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

CONTROL MODULE and DISPLAY are limited by the following temperature range and humidity level: 32 to 120oF (0 to 50oC), 90% RH max.
The SENSOR can handle the -20 to 140oF (-28 to 60oC) temperature range and up to 95% RH.
If the temperature and RH levels in the bin do not exceed the display's operating limits it should be fine.
In terms of how long it can record, the sampling rate can be adjusted: it is selectable from 0.1 to 199.9 minutes and will hold a total of 49,152 sample points. There are 129600 minutes in three months (using 90 days), so it can hold 3 months worth of data if you set the sampling rate to 2.7 minutes or more (129600 minutes/49152 sampling points = 2.6 minutes/point). Please call or email us for further assistance.

  • Q:

The port access hole on the back of my cabinet is only 1/2" in diameter so will the probe fit or can it be threaded through and then plugged into the unit?
Asked on 8/16/2011 by Bruce from Sweetwater, TX

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The probe is larger than 1/2". The cable uses an RJ11 connectior to plug into the meter. That is a telephone plug connection. That is smaller than a 1/2" but you can also test it with a phone cable to verify it.

  • Q:

I need to know if the probe can be left in my cabinet that is a constant 90 degrees and 90% humidity 24/7 and give me acurate data? How would I get the unit NIST re-certified? Would I need to buy a new unit every two years?
Asked on 8/16/2011 by Bruce from Sweetwater, TX

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Yes, the probe can be left in the cabinet and be used as a datalogger 24/7 and remain accurate. It is designed to store up to 49,000 data points. We have in-house calibration lab that can re-calibrate the unit to NIST standards. The NIST part number is 17030-20.

We Gave Up on it!

About Me Professional

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Compact
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Difficult To Use
  • Impossible To Use
  • Too Complicated
  • Too Many Menus

Best Uses

Comments about Extech Humidity Temperature/Humidity Paperless Recorder:

The menus are hard to work, the keystrokes are cryptic, and it's difficult to tell one screen from the next. The date/time changes based on if the unit is in "alarm" mode, which is most of the time. The alarm triggers a audio beep that cannot be shut off for more than a minute at a time. We cut the wire to the speaker to quiet it permanently.
We bought it to monitor an incubator and it was so hard to use and understand that we gave up!
Spend the extra and buy an old-fashioned circular chart recorder - that's what we did.
Bottom line - it's an expensive green paperweight.

Comments about Extech Humidity Temperature/Humidity Paperless Recorder:

We use this product to confirm the temperature and humidity levels in our Bikram Yoga Studio. It has been quite useful as the wall thermostat controls only gauge the air temp once its in the vent in the wall and we need to know what the temp and humidity is in the actual room. We love it and so do our yoga customers.

A reliable, easy to use Temp/%RH monitor

      • Pharmaceutical Laboratory

Comments about Extech Humidity Temperature/Humidity Paperless Recorder:

This is a very good temp and %RH monitor that can be used in a R & D laboratory (Pharmaceutical). This replaces costly cGMP chart recorders. Calibration is cheaper than a chart recorder and sufficient memory to run more than a month with 15 min intervals.
Only problem with this unit is that you have to enter data collection interval when you down load the data to a computer. If a wrong data collection interval is entered, the unit will download wrong data and the user would not know if it were correct or not. Apart from this issue, this unit is a very reliable unit to use in a lab.

Comments about Extech Humidity Temperature/Humidity Paperless Recorder:

This is a what I really wanted for a dryer monitoring equipment. You can monitor temperature and humidity. You can also review what has happened with the temperature or rh when you are away.

The bad thing with this is the construction material seems to be flimsy and made of low grade plastic. I am afraid it will crack in sooner. Also the rubber buttons do not respond easily. I have to press it really hard.

Overall, its like a good book with a bad cover.

Comments about Extech Humidity Temperature/Humidity Paperless Recorder:

I am using 5 units in my work and like the large screen that shows the data trend, but I have learned to hate this unit when transfering the data into my computer for storage.
Unit has data errors and will then return only partial information. Lost 3 months out of 5 months of testing Temp. Do Not Use if the data is to be saved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Using them for monitoring ambient conditions, they allow easy viewing of current conditions as well as review of previously recorded conditions without the hassle of paper charts or ink cartridges. Would be even more useful if device came with a NIST-traceable calibration from the factory, but definitely not a deal-killer.
