Temperature is often the first indication of a potential problem. The Fluke 62 MAX noncontact thermometers are ideal for quick, basic temperature checks in applications where the user needs to be a safe distance from the target area being measured. This compact, portable tool enables professionals to scan surfaces for hot spots, diagnose problems, and monitor temperature variations without direct contact. Easy to use—just aim the laser sighting at the center of the target area, pull the trigger, and read the temperature on the large backlit LCD.

IP54 rated for dust and water resistance, ruggedly built to withstand a 3-meter drop and ergonomic designed for a more natural hand fit makes the Fluke 62 MAX meters ideal for use in many different work environments. These IR thermometers feature Fahrenheit or Celsius selectable units, current/min/max temperature readings, average and differential temperatures, adjustable high/low setpoints with audible alarm, seven-second auto hold, continuous scanning, and power off.

  • Q:

What is the ambient temperature range for using this model? I´m looking for an instrument to use inside a walk-in freezer at -20°C. Would you recommend a different model? Could there be problems with condensation when I go back out of the freezer?
Asked on 3/20/2014 by Charles from San José, Costa Rica

  • Q:

      A:

Turn the meter on. Next, press the "SEL" key to cycle through the different functions until you get to °C or °F. Once you see °C or °F, press the "Set" key to goggle between the two. Once the desired measuring unit is displayed, you can press or pull the trigger to complete the selection.

      A:

This unit does not include a NIST calibration certificate with the purchase of the unit. If the NIST calibration is needed, it can be purchased as a separate service as catalog number 17004-00.

  • Q:

can the Fluke Compact Infrared Thermometer detect moisture within a concrete slab by measuring temperature differentials?
Asked on 2/6/2013 by John from Fort Benning, Georgia

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

I'm not a concrete expert, however my understanding is that during the cure process, water is hydrated into the mix generating heat. While that process is continuing over the days or weeks following a pour, warmer temperatures would show where the curing is less complete.

Following the time for a "complete" cure, water intrusion deep into a concrete mass should be the same temperature as its' surroundings, since no more curing is taking place, and evaporation is blocked by the mass of concrete surrounding the water. Intruded water near the surface should evaporate cooling the surrounding concrete - the Fluke 62 can detect this cooling.

You should also consider the Extech photo IR thermometer, our 39753-08, which takes a picture of the point at which the thermometer is directed, as shown by the aiming laser. This lets you see the cooled area and even take still photos or video; it is about 1/2 the cost of an IR camera.
