  • Versatile, convenient, and accurate spear-tip pH tester
  • Electrode junction is 200 times larger than standard electrodes, making it virtually impossible to clog
  • Rugged spear tip makes it ideal for soft solids and semisolid materials like meats, cheeses, and fruit
  • Long, thin electrode can be used to determine pH in test tubes and other narrow containers
The unique junction design provides increased electrolyte flow, resulting in greater contact between sample and reference, ensuring fast, stable readings. The double-junction design offers enhanced performance. Additional features include a hold function, auto-off function, self-diagnostic error messages, and a three-segment battery-life indicator.

  • Q:

Will the spare part 35634-50 of this equipment work with 35634-10 pH meter?

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The correct replacement sensor for 35634-10 is 35624-38.

  • Q:

I am curious to find out if this item is compatable or will work in High alkaline baths . they are alkalinity of about 12 and ph of around 11.5 to 12 with temps around 150 degrees
Also can this be used in acid baths .
or is this probe / meter not chemical resistant?
Asked on 1/30/2014 by Debra from Kentwood, Mi

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The measuring part of the sensor is glass and it is housed in a plastic material, Styrene Acrylonitrile (SAN). You may be better of going with a 35634-14 and an all glass electrode like the 05998-30.

  • Q:

Hi can this meter be used in biopharma industry for ph of cell culture suspension? Is it made up of VHP resistant materials?
Asked on 1/7/2014 by Joanna from Ireland

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

This product is not designed to be sterilized, and has not been tested with vaporized hydrogen peroxide. It can be used to measure the pH of liquid cell cultures.

  • Q:

Can this probe be used to measure pH in Tris-buffered solutions?
Asked on 3/20/2013 by David from United States

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Yes, it could be used; the junction will not clog from exposure to Tris based buffers or solutions.

  • Q:

What is the minimum volume required in a 2 mL tube for this probe to measure pH? Would ~300 uL be enough?
Asked on 2/12/2013 by Ryan from Boston

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

We do not have an exact volume - we can only say that the tip diameter is approx 7mm at it's greatest (it is conical or spear shaped, and it needs to be submersed about 6mm. If 300 uL can be displaced by the probe enough to immerse it 6 mm it will work well.
The sensor only requires about 20 uL of fluid - but that will depend upon the shape of the container it is placed in as well.

  • Q:

Can this be used to measure PH of sausages, salami, or fermented meats? Does it have a minimum water activity (aW)requirement for the electrode to work?
Asked on 12/28/2012 by Kyle from West Virginia

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

This pH spear is what we recommend for testing the pH of meats and cheeses. Water Activity is not a parameter tested - generally is has to do with water present. Since this meter utilizes such a low volume of water to make a measurement - I estimate the volume is about 50 uL. The greater diameter of the spear tip is 7 mm and it need to be submerged or inserted about 6 mm to obtain a reading.

  • Q:

can this product be used to test ph levels in crushed pepper?
Asked on 12/3/2012 by David from Hagatna Guam

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Yes, as long as the crushed pepper is still wet. This will not determine the pH of dry products.

  • Q:

Can pH spear be used with cocoa powder?
    Asked on 4/16/2012 by Anonymous

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Liquid content is necessary to achieve accurate readings. The pH levels of cocoa powder alone could not be obtained.

  • Q:

hi,can this pH meter detect the pH for 100 micro liters of sample and can it fit in a 2mL eppendorf tube?
Asked on 2/20/2012 by mini from mumbai

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

The probe on Item 35634-40 fits perfectly in a 2 millimeter size tube, however Item 35634-40 would require a sample large enough immerse the tip. Please see item 05718-21, a micro electrode, which would work with Oakton pH 5, Item 35613-50

  • Q:

hi can this spear ph meter be used to check ph of soap bars?
Does it work simply by probing the dry soap bar?
    Asked on 4/29/2011 by RS

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

There is a minimum water content for this product to work. It has not been tested on dry soap bars, but this product routinely works with other solid objects such as firm cheeses.

Cons

    Best Uses

    • In The Field

I was concerned about fouling or bad readings with such a soft and sticky medium. However the unit is well designed to deal with this and cleaning it is not a problem. Easy to store with the cap that contains the storage solution
