Tachometers

Davis Instruments offers a complete line of portable and panel-mount digital tachometers designed for measuring RPM of different types of equipment. We offer contact and non-contact tachometers that are loaded with many features, including TTL pulse otput, auto ranging, expanded memory, last min/max values, infrared temperature measurement, and more!

Tachometers are perfect instruments for measuring RPM of dangerous moving machinery at a safe distance. Use a tachometer for taking speed measurements in hard-to-reach and remote locations ensuring your equipment is operating up to specifications. Tachomters allow you to monitor machinery and conduct thorough visual inspections.

The tachometer is a vital instrument in troubleshooting machinery perfomance and should be used for your preventative maintenance inspections to save time and money in helping to eliminate critical downtime.

Select a panel-mount or a portable digital tachometer that provides measurement rates up to 999,999 RPM and accuracies to ±0.0015% of reading with LCD or LED displays. Tachometers are battery operated and are desinged with light-weight, rugged, industrial bodies to withstand stringent industrial environments. Select a remote optical or magnetic sensor for hands free operation with your tachometer and to take measurements from multiple locations.

Types of Tachometers

    Contact Tachometer:

These tachometers are used to measure rpm or linear speed by physically touching a concave tip, a convex tip, or a surface wheel to a rotating or moving object.

    Optical Digital Tachometer:

These non-contact digital tachometers are used to measure rpm by measuring the number of rotations a reflective surface makes in one minute.
Laser beam technolgy - Class II Rated - allows you to take measurements up to 14 feet away. These type of tachometers are also referred to as phototachometers.
Typical Tachometer RPM Measurement Applications

  • Speed of motors
  • Production line checks
  • Gear movement and engagement
  • Speed of propellers and fans
  • RPM of rollers
  • Monitoring turbines
  • Cam and spindle motion
  • Quality control
